Daphne’s Transformation

According to Greek mythology Daphne was a Naiad nymph of the river Peneios in Thessalia or the Ladon of Arkadia. She was lusted after by the god Apollo who pursued her until she grew exhausted. Desperate to escape the unwanted attention Daphne cried out to Gaia, Goddess of the Earth, for help and was transformed into a laurel tree.
